Event Details
The Social Explorers program is a 10-week after-school initiative designed to help children build essential social and cooperative skills in a fun, dynamic setting. A collaboration between Northern Outreach and Clinical Services and Science North, this program blends Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with exciting hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities. Children will work on skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and peer interaction while exploring the world of STEM in a supportive environment. This program is ideal for children who may need extra support in social skill development and thrive in hands-on, interactive settings. The program is overseen by a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA), ensuring that each child’s learning is guided by evidence-based practices tailored to their individual needs.
PROGRAM FOCUS AREAS
Children will have the opportunity to build and practice these essential social skills:
– CONVERSATIONAL SKILLS: How to start and maintain meaningful, respectful conversations.
– NEGOTIATION SKILLS: Learning how to collaborate and find solutions that work for everyone.
– PERSPECTIVE-TAKING: Understanding and appreciating different viewpoints.
– TEAMWORK: Working together to complete tasks and build friendships.
– PROBLEM-SOLVING: Collaborating with peers to tackle challenges and accomplish goals.
These skills will be practiced alongside exciting STEM activities, allowing children to apply their learning in real-world scenarios while exploring science, technology, engineering, and math in creative ways.
