By Lindsay Davies, I’ve Been Bit Travel
Did you know you can travel across Canada without leaving Toronto? Say hello to Little Canada – a miniaturized version of our country that has just expanded to include even more of it!

Voted our province’s Attraction of the Year for four years and counting, Little Canada highlights various locations from the country in miniature form. While the scenes may be tiny, the attraction is not as it’s the size of not one but TWO hockey rinks! Visitors will be tickled to
see the shrunken forms of icons like Toronto’s CN Tower, Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls and Quebec City’s Chateau Frontenac. I know I was! They even have the Bay of Fundy with working tides so you can watch the water flow in and out as the world’s highest tides are simulated to perfection.

Now, you can travel even more of Canada as the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon have arrived at Little Canada with their newest addition, Little North! The exhibit depicts three destinations in each of the territories: Iqaluit, the Northwest Passage and the North Pole in Nunavut, Yellowknife, Tuktoyaktuk and the Mackenzie River Delta in the Northwest Territories and Whitehorse, the White Pass and Yukon Route, and Dawson City in the Yukon. Guests will have the pleasure of experiencing the unique cultures and stories that come from these northern communities as well as get a taste of the incredible landscapes.
What makes this exhibit even more special is the extensive discussions the Little Canada team had with Indigenous leaders and groups to ensure the locations depicted in Little North were done so respectfully. In working with Indigenous consultants Jacquelyn and Hunter
Cardinal from Naheyawin, the Little Canada team ensured that these communities were able to tell their stories respectfully and on their terms. For four years, every single conversation, request and relationship was approached with genuine care and respect – and the result is
something so precious that it will touch the minds and hearts of all who visit.

Little Canada allows people who may never have the resources to travel to these destinations themselves to still experience them in such a visceral way, especially with Little North. For far too long, Indigenous voices have been silenced and this exhibit not only celebrates these traditions but uplifts these stories and brings them to those who may never be exposed to them otherwise. Just hearing guests talk about the Dettah Ice Road and the Arctic Circle Drum with such enthusiastic wonder touched my heart. What a magical moment to hear so many people learn about an area of the world that once felt so far away to now have it within reach thanks to the incredible work of Little Canada!
It was such a treat to be transported back to one of my favourite places on earth. My trip to Yellowknife may have been back in 2018 but I cherish the incredible experiences and wonderful people I met to this very day. It’s also the very first place I saw the Northern Lights and to see the beautiful colours prance along the walls took me right back. It felt as though it was just yesterday that I was laying outside for three hours watching the aurora dance above me and experiencing the thrill of the ice roads for the first time. I even shivered during my early sneak peek at the exhibit, though the room being set at a cool 15 degrees Celsius may have had something to do with that!

Completed in about 60,000 hours by a team of 30 people, Little Canada’s newest addition is a sight you need to see. You may just spot my miniature inside Little North, albeit improperly clothed! That’s right, you can immortalize yourself with Little Canada’s Littlization experience where you’ll be shrunk down to three quarters of an inch. You can either take your miniature home or place yourself right in one of the exhibits! Don’t forget to snag the Attractions Ontario coupon and save 15% on your Littlization experience.
Little North is now open for all to see so what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets and experience the beauty of Canada from coast to coast and now, the final coast.
