The Manitoulin Art Tour is an annual celebration of creativity held each July on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. Organized by the Manitoulin Fine Arts Association (MFAA), this self-guided tour invites visitors to explore the island’s diverse artistic community. In 2025, the event is scheduled for July 18-20th.
Spanning the island from Meldrum Bay to South Baymouth, the tour features over 60 artists showcasing a wide range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, pottery, jewelry, and textiles. Artists open their studios and galleries to the public, offering a unique opportunity to meet creators, view their work, and purchase original pieces.
The tour also highlights the island’s scenic beauty, with many locations offering picturesque views and tranquil settings. Notable stops include the South Bay Gallery, known for its pottery and indigenous crafts, and the Perivale Gallery, which hosts the annual “In the Spirit of Tom Thomson & the Group of Seven” exhibition.

Event Highlights:
July 18: The festivities kick off with a slow-pitch softball tournament and a ball hockey tournament, providing opportunities for friendly competition and community engagement.
July 19: Enjoy a hearty pancake breakfast at the historic Knox Church, followed by a lively parade showcasing local groups and organizations. The day continues with various kids’ events, including a 100-foot waterslide, ensuring fun for all ages. In the evening, the Country Fest Jamboree features performances by local talent, and the night concludes with a video music dance party.
July 20: The weekend wraps up with the exciting Smash-Up Derby, a crowd favorite that promises thrilling entertainment.
Additional Attractions:
Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy a 50/50 raffle, a barbecue, and a bar and canteen hosted by Manitowaning Minor Hockey. This exhibition typically runs from late August to early September, offering the public an opportunity to experience a wide array of artworks in various mediums.
The MFAA Members’ Show features a diverse range of artworks, including oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, mixed media pieces, and more. Artists such as Penny Bois, Cliff Jewell, and Sue Cairns have been noted for their participation in past exhibitions, contributing to the show’s dynamic and varied offerings.
Dates: The 2025 exhibition is scheduled to run from August 20 to September 8, 2025.

This year’s fair, themed “Barnyard Boogie,” promises a weekend filled with traditional fair activities and family-friendly entertainment. Attendees can look forward to agricultural exhibits, livestock shows, homecraft displays, and various competitions. Highlights include the 4-H exhibits, horse halter classes, horse pulls, and the ever-popular tea biscuit competition, where the coveted “tea biscuit crown” is awarded to the best baker.
