What started as a classroom idea is now one of Ontario’s largest outdoor adventure brand
Toronto (ON) – May 26, 2026 – This year, one of Ontario’s most beloved outdoor adventure brands is marking a major milestone. Treetop Trekking celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026, highlighting two decades of sustained growth, tourism impact, and leadership in experiential outdoor recreation.
Known for its aerial courses, zip lines, and North America’s largest outdoor trampolines, Treetop Trekking has built a reputation as a category leader in active, nature-based experiences. What began as a bold entrepreneurial vision has evolved into a multi-location operation and a key contributor to Ontario’s tourism economy.
Following early success in Quebec, Treetop Trekking expanded into Ontario in 2006 with the opening of its first park in Horseshoe Valley near Barrie. Since then, the company has steadily grown its footprint and now operates seven parks across the province, serving a broad audience that includes families, corporate groups, schools, and domestic and international visitors.
The company’s origin story reflects a strong entrepreneurial foundation. In 2001, founder Jean-Marie Bévillard arrived in Quebec from France and developed the concept for a treetop adventure park as part of an entrepreneurship program led by Stéphane Vachon in Montreal. Inspired by a well-established model in Europe, the idea introduced a new category of outdoor recreation to the Canadian market. Recognizing its potential, Vachon partnered with Bévillard to launch the business, laying the groundwork for what would become a scalable and enduring tourism offering.
“Twenty years ago, Treetop Trekking began with a simple idea: to help people reconnect with nature through adventure, and today, it has become part of how families, friends, and visitors experience Ontario’s forests and outdoor spaces together. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re incredibly proud of the role we’ve played in the outdoor attraction industry, supporting regional tourism, and creating meaningful experiences rooted in sustainability, connection, and discovery. This anniversary is a celebration of the people, communities, and natural landscapes that have shaped our journey over the past two decades, and we’re excited for what’s still to come.” — Stéphane Vachon, CEO of The Trekking Group.
Today, Treetop Trekking continues to demonstrate strong performance and relevance in a growing attraction tourism market. Since 2019 alone, the company has welcomed more than 2 million guests across its Ontario locations, underscoring sustained demand for active, outdoor experiences close to major urban centres.
Beyond visitor numbers, Treetop Trekking has made a significant contribution to local economies and workforce development. The company has employed more than 1,250 people across Ontario, creating accessible, youth-friendly employment opportunities and supporting skills development in tourism, recreation, and customer experience.
In recent years, the company has further strengthened its market position with the introduction and expansion of uplå by Treetop Trekking, a signature experience centred around large-scale outdoor trampoline parks integrated into natural forest settings. Uplå has quickly emerged as a key driver of visitation, attracting new audiences and extending length of stay in regional destinations. By blending low-barrier, high-impact outdoor play with immersive design, the concept has contributed to increased family tourism and repeat visitation across Ontario. The innovation has also garnered industry recognition, with Treetop Trekking and uplå receiving multiple tourism and business awards for design, sustainability, and contribution to regional tourism growth, further solidifying the company’s reputation as a leader in Canada’s evolving outdoor recreation sector.
As Ontario continues to prioritize sustainable tourism and regional economic development, Treetop Trekking’s model aligns with broader industry trends, offering low-impact, nature-based experiences that encourage outdoor activity while supporting local communities.
Looking ahead, the company remains focused on innovation, guest experience, and strategic growth, with continued investment in its parks, programming, and partnerships across the province.
