Event Details

Beneath our feet lies a story written in stone—where warm, shallow seas once teemed with life, leaving behind fossils that still whisper of coral reefs and ancient waters. Later, vast glaciers swept across the land, shaping that ancient seabed into the Niagara Escarpment and building the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine.

Annette Sandberg a Simcoe – Grey County, Ontario historical researcher, will take us on a journey to explore how the Niagara Escarpment and the Oak Ridges Moraine were formed from shallow seas into the land we know today. A collection of fossil remains from that vanished ocean will be on display, offering a glimpse into this ancient story.

This program will be offered in a hybrid format – in-person at Hillary House National Historic Site and online via Zoom.

The in-person program takes place in the Ballroom, located on the second floor of Hillary House which is only accessed via a staircase. Please contact us at community@aurorahs.com to inquiry about accommodations.
