Discover the 1,500-acre country estate and former home of five generations of the Thompson family located in southwestern Ontario in rural Haldimand County.
Today the site is owned by The Lower Grand River Land Trust Inc., a non-government, not-for-profit volunteer-based organization. Our purpose is to conserve the cultural and natural landscapes for the enjoyment of our visitors. The mansion overlooks the Canadian Heritage Grand River which played a significant role in the early history of the area and development of the Ruthven Park National Historic Site. An example would be the former industrial town of Indiana which was established in the mid-nineteenth century and is where David Thompson built his businesses and initially lived. A significant portion of Ruthven Park is also part of the North Cayuga Slough Forest, a provincially significant Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI) as well as an Environmentally Sensitive Area.
